Drawtober 2025
I decided to be part of Drawtober again this year, the theme this time being Dark Fairytale.
For this year I knew I wanted to improve on what I was able to do last year adding more detail to my character designs and even adding some background elements to help the piece come together.

Drawtober prompt 1: Candlelit messanger
I was really stuck on this prompt as I felt the prompt was so open ended. I decided to lean into the dark fantasy theme and give my character a really fantastical messenger bag.
I decided to make it a little more diverse making my character a black man shrouded in mostly shadow to add mystery. In the end I was really happy with this piece.

Drawtober prompt 2: Toad astrologer
For the second prompt I struggled a bit as anthropomorphic characters are not something I do often. Despite this I really pushed myself to get the astrology themes in this piece, whilst also trying to think outside the box as instead of going for an accurate depiction of an astrologer, I decided to lean more into the fantastical side of the prompt.
In the end I am really happy with the outcome of this piece as I tried out a slightly different rendering style to what I would usually do opting for more a of a cell shaded look.

Prompt 3: Mushroom fairy
For this prompt I wanted to try going outside of the box a little bit by doing research on more unique looking mushrooms as opposed to the more popular well recognised ones. I settled on one called "the veiled lady" as I thought it was a fitting mushroom for the Halloween season, and it had a unique design.
To try and fit the aesthetic of the mushroom, I made her dress more flowy as opposed to the frill dresses often associated with fairies, and gave her moth wings to tie the look together.

Prompt 4: Spellbound princess
For this drawing I originally had the idea for my character to be surrounded in smoke as I wanted to take inspiration from Disney movie villains. However I felt the idea had been overdone before so I decided to go for disembodied hands almost as if the princess was being haunted in a way.
I felt like this fit the prompt whilst also being different from the usual sleeping spell or "magic fog".

Prompt 5: Troll Toll
I really had to push myself with this design as I don't usually draw a large range of body types, or even ages. For the prompt Troll Toll I decided to have a troll guarding a cave entrance, the toll in this case being to fight the troll to be granted access.
I went through a few colour palettes for the cave design as I wanted something that contrasted nicely with the troll but didn't distract away from him and ended up settling on just grey.

Prompt 6: Enchanted masquerade
For this piece I decide to go with an enchanted masquerade festival as opposed to a ball. This way I could be a little more whimsical with the outfit choices as opposed to being restricted to a ball gown or suit.
To add the enchanted aspect into the masquerade I just made the venue more bright with floating lanterns and having a sparkly effect on the brick wall behind my character.
