Mock up Toy designs

These are designs for a mock up for a fictional toy brand I made for a project. (There are images of their first designs on my sketchbook work page).

The brand was called would be called "Techsona" and it would be themed after Y2k technology with dolls that had swappable heads that you could replace with pieces of tech such as and iPod or an old school computer from this decade.

Techsona doll 1: Pixl
The first Techsona doll was designed based off of an apple computer from the 2000s. I wanted to make sure that the outfits reflected Y2k, trying to make the pants as holographic as possible.

Techsona doll 2: Lyric

The second doll was base off of an iPod nano 3rd gen. I decided to call her lyric as I wanted a musical based name for her. I decided to make her outfit more flowy as I tried to think of an outfit that would be worn by someone who danced a lot as it reflected the fact that she was an ipod.

Techsona doll 3: Ray

As this character's head is a CRT TV, which stands for cathode ray television, I decided to name her Ray. I wanted to look at other outfit aesthetics of the Y2k era coming across a more grunge/street style for this character for more variety amongst the dolls.

Techsona doll 4: Kiki

For the final techsona doll, I went with a side kick phone. I knew I wanted a phone but I wanted to pick one that I felt I needed to pick one that wouldn't be too long or big like the ipod, so I went with this one.

For her outfit I went for a slightly more maximalist style giving her leg warmers and chunky trainers to add to the design.

Figuring out the measurements of the dolls

To make the doll I had to figure out the rough measurements of how tall the doll would need to be. I looked at standard ball joint dolls for inspo which were roughly 15.5 to around 19 inches for collector dolls.

This meant that I needed the doll to fall in between that range and did rough maths to figure out how long each segment would be, making sure that it all added up.

Techsona packaging design

This was the final packaging mock up, showing what it would look like when fully folded, and what it would look like unfolded.

I went with this design as the cut out front allowed consumers to see the doll in its most of its glory.

Font for packaging

These are some sketches of font ideas that I had for the packaging and overall branding of the dolls. I wanted to make sure that the font also reflected the y2k feel that I was going for with the overall aesthetic of the dolls. I changed the O into a power button to further push the technical feel of the dolls.

Putting it all together
I decided to do some mock-ups of individual packaging for the girls, that showed off their personalities on the back. Due to time restraints on my course I was not able to fully detail the back leaving it with very rough guidelines for the poses I would want the characters to have.
